It’s been great to see our Irish disco brothers Darren Daz Dalton and Martin Roche finally getting a bit of nationwide acclaim. Promoting the disco vibes around the southern tip of Ireland for well over a decade the guys have hosted and played with a who’s who of the scene’s biggest hitters, garnered a formidable fanbase for their own legendary DJ sets and all the while, worked up a few bits and pieces of material of their own.
In particular Daz’s re-work of Sister Sledge’s Greatest Dancer earlier this year become one of those Soundcloud phenomena. An edit so obviously great it gathers support at a rapid rate of knots, gets picked up by a big name DJ, and the overwhelming pressure to release bears fruit.
The result was Get Down Edits Vol 1, a super solid collection of the guys’ edits that was pressed up in limited number, and sold out in most outlets almost instantly.
Fret not though! The release is now available in digital format and Daz gave us a quick run down behind the whole project.
“It has been something we’ve been working on since late 2010 to be honest, this was around the time I got talking to the guys who pressed & distributed the vinyl. All the edits that featured on the wax were finished before this time besides one (Far Beyond) which was done to complete the release. I had been working on these re-edits without any idea or aspiration that they would be pressed to vinyl and released to be honest.”
“The compilation has primarily been an opportunity for me to get some of my edits pressed to vinyl & distributed to some major record & online stores but it could also definitely be an opportunity to act as a platform or home for other peoples work too”
“The Sister Sledge edit certainly had a big part to play in the whole thing. I was finishing off edits, uploading them to soundcloud and sending them out to DJs I had got to know from having them over to play at our Get Down party. It gathered good feedback on Soundcloud but then Greg Wilson mailed me saying it was really working for him and that I should try to get it released. Greg set me up with the guys who pressed & distributed the vinyl. So yeah it’s basically its all down to Greg Wilson! He’s a true gentleman and really helped us out a lot. Having been a big fan of his for a long time now i was delighted that he had seen some potential in what I was doing.”
“The Get Down Edits Vol 1 vinyl went really well & I was delighted with some nice feedback. I’d like to thanks everyone that supported it and fingers crossed that we can come up with a vol 2!”
We posted up a link to the guys’ recent excellent Get Down mix, properly worthy of doing so again..
