ISODISCO PODCAST 017 | LUVLESS

Firstly, huge apologies for the terrible (in)frequency of our podcasts! It’s a resolution that we’ll be be waay more organized and on top of things in 2013, no matter how much of real life we have to sideline.. BUT by way of apology, how’s about we serve up an hour of beats & grooves from, for us, 2012’s most outstanding artist, collective and record label.

LUVLESS is a 32 year old producer & DJ from Leipzig in Germany and one fifth of the Rose Records collective. It was his output a couple of years back on the very first Rose Records release, the vibes of the unbelievably smooth Surrounder, that first brought Luvless into our consciousness and since then it has been a pleasure to both hear his continued development as a producer and also dive into his fantastic back catalogue. continue..

Luvless | Oceans & Mountains

Here’s some lush brilliance from one part of the Rose Records crew to make up for me having been such a wack, sporadic blogger recently!

2012 has definitely been the year of the Rose for me. With three beautiful EPs in the bag and a fourth dropping soon, the warmth, soul and detail of the guys’ productions is just next-level shit. The super cool Leipzig-based crew (Martin Hayes, Luvless & M.ono) specialise in deep, low-tempo percussive grooves, and this sample-laden sunshine journey from Luvless is no different.

Also be sure and check out the fellas’ sumptuous collection of mixes over here, each and every one of them is ace!

Monsieur Monod | Smiling At The Moon mix

Monsieur Monod is probably better known as one half of the Sleazy Beats Recordings crew, so by default has fantastic taste in deep house music. He’s also a technically brilliant DJ and clearly always puts loads of thought and programming into everything he does, but he’d probably try and tell us all differently ;)

The upshot is that his too infrequent mixes are always joys to behold, and he’s just dropped this lil beauty for everyone’s love and attention. And it’s absolutely ace – perfect for lazy Sunday mornings or whenever you need a massive dose of warm soothing vibes like, y’know, one of those absolutely horrific flights home after four sleepless hardcore days on the sauce, and you get a seat surrounded by crying babies. This mix will help fix that situation. If only I’d had it last week ffs.

Re Sleazy Beats btw – in case you didn’t know already the 10th and final release in what will surely be remembered as one of the most genre-defining record labels of modern times, is available now – a truly wicked EP by Frank Booker (check out the 15 min mark of this mix for the awesome POINTS off the record.) A new series of records under the Sleazy Beats Black Ops umbrella is on the near horizon, keep em peeled.

North Pollard | Yes, Let’s

If there’s a more consistent label around than Audio Parallax, or a harder working boss than its honcho David Kenney, I’d love to know. This EP by Aussie North Pollard is the labels 36th release in a couple of short years, and of the incredible standard we’ve come to expect as the norm.

Nothing too intricate about this particular track, adding weight to the theory that if you get a couple of vital things nailed, you have a beast on your hands. This is all about the soft bassline and sleazy tempo, early evening perfection right here.

isodisco Top Ten of Eleven Pt2

So yeah as we were saying, this Top Ten thing didn’t really work out as originally planned. The mix, that idea was quickly binned for the reasons below. And shortly after, once it became clear our shortlist of 43 tracks really wouldn’t divide into ten, the entire Top Ten thing was shelved too, to be replaced by a rather random Top Fourteen. That’s just the crazy way we roll folks, we don’t live by anybody rules – not even our own..

isodisco Top Ten of Eleven Pt1

It has to be said, we’re completely shite at this Top Ten thing. We originally intended to do a mix of all our favourite records from this year, but quickly realised that going from 85bpm to 128bpm in a pretty short time span would be somewhat of a challenge. Then there’s the what-has-proved-t0-be-impossible task of selecting our ten favourite tracks of the year, but more on that later..
