Electro

Beaten Space Probe | Lovely Breakdown (edit)

Suuuuuper cool early electro edit here from our man Shota Tanaka aka BEATEN SPACE PROBE.

Nothing overly fancy here, just a nice simple re-edit of Electric Mind’s Zwai just the way we like em – elongating the great bits, and chopping out the not so great. Love the huge drop on this, can’t wait to spin it on a big rig!

This is part of a real solid new EP on Play Pal Music that features a whole host of other edit-heavyweights.

And in case you missed it, Shota gave us a little interview piece & spun us an incredible podcast a short while ago – listen up and grab it from here.

Pitchben | Stand Up (Runaway Remix)

Really really liked the Pitchben album from a few months back, and this new release of remixes on Compost is mega tight. The Tiger & Woods remix is pretty stellar and will probably grab the most attention but Runaway’s ace singalong re-work just pips it for us.

Another one for the sun terraces and boat parties, this’ll be BIG. Absolutely lovin that bassline too.

Greg Wilson | Belfast

So the always excellent Greg Wilson was in town at the weekend, dropping an always excellent Greg Wilson set and we’ve been on a non-stop GW tip ever since. Not a lot by way of surprise in terms of the evening’s soundtrack – typical solid GW edits, a smattering of old school classics, some reel to reel revox sound fx and a proper cracking party. Props to Love & Death for getting him over.

Here’s a few tracks with the golden GW touch that we’ve been re-visiting..

Loose Fit – Chug (Greg Wilson remix)

Adriano Celentano – Prisencolinensinainciusol (GW Ruff Edit)

Nick Chacona & Anthony Mansfield – Oh Snap! (Greg Wilson edit)

Crown Heights Affair – You Gave Me Love (Greg Wilson Edit)

ELO – Last Train To London (GW bionic edit)

And for anyone that missed our exclusive Greg Wilson podcast from last year, rectify that quick time..

Great to see some genuine musical brilliance in Belfast this year btw, it’s been long overdue! Greg joins Daniel Wang, Tensnake, Eddie C, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Prosumer and Hercules & Love Affair in having played the small smoke in 2011. And with gigs by the likes of Trus’me and Mark Seven for later in the year, our disco boots are being well and truly looked after. Huzzah!

Top Ten of 2010

What a properly wicked year 2010 was. It’s proved nigh on impossible to agree on just ten tracks that defined the year for us, so instead here’s ten that wrecked any dancefloor that we happened to enjoy..

Prince – I Wanna Be Your Lover (Changbang edit)
Smashing edit this from Changbang, a proper anytime dancefloor favourite.
Prince – I Wanna Be Your Lover (Chang Bang Edit)

Tornado Wallace – Stop Holding Back
For us, the advent of the vinyl-only Sleazy Beats empire was one of the single coolest things to happen in 2010. Super consistent with an ultra soulful disco-house output, everything they released this year was straight-to-cart. Thankfully they’ve more big things planned for 2011, hopefully as wickedly groovy as this choice from the don that is Tornado Wallace.

Tiger & Woods – Gin Nation
Re-Imagination-ated (see what we did there) looped-up greatness from T&W, announcing their arrival on the disco-house scene with a massive bang. With a wtf breakdown that lasted the entire year. Awesome.
Tiger & Woods – Gin Nation

ELO – Last Train to London (GW Bionic edit)
Typical quirky choice of edit for Greg Wilson, typical singalong result from this masterful edit. End of night bomb.
ELO – Last Train To London (GW bionic edit)

Alex Wilson – Show Me (LTJ Xperience Remix)
LTJ has probably been the most consistent producer on the planet this year – an irrepressible conveyor belt of tracks, edits and remixes that are essential listening, one and all. This was one of our favourites.
Alex Wlson – Show Me (LTJ Xperience Remix)

Stevie Wonder – Do I Do (U-Tern Disco Edit)
If all else is failing, if all you’re getting are disapproving looks and requests for Rhianna, stick a bit of Stevie Wonder on. If that don’t ignite a dancefloor, pack up and go home. This U-Tern edit of Do I Do is a total weapon.
Stevie Wonder – Do I Do (U-Tern Disco Edit)

Tina Turner – I Can’t Stand The Rain (Wikström Edit)
Super slow and super cool edit of a classic Tina Turner, this has been a permanent fixture in our sets for a few months. Bring in the full length 12″ mix of the original afterwards and check the “oh, THAT’s what it is” smiles. This is bliss.
Tina Turner – I Can’t Stand The Rain (Wikstrom Edit)

Eltron John – And Then We Realise
Another beaut coming out of Poland is Eltron John with And Then We Realise. More super slow, beatdown greatness with a massive groove that sucks you right in.
Eltron John – And Then We Realise

Aloe Blacc – I Need A Dollar (Tensnake Remix)
Can we say we HATED Coma Cat? Is that allowed? 2010 was a massive year for Marco Niemerski what with the huge success and crossover appeal of his biggest track to date. Have to say we much prefer the source of the sample though, this massively, erm, camp number from Anthony And The Camp.
This is the kind of Tensnake business more up our street. A cool little pop number by Aloe Blacc, torn to shreds and re-sewn as a big grooving motherfucker of a tune. Wicked.
Aloe Blacc – I Need A Dollar (Tensnake Remix)

Toby Tobias – Macasu (MCDE Loft Party Remix)
This was probably the biggest tune of the year for us. We’ve posted it previously, but a worthy re-post. Quite how MCDE manages to craft something so massive yet subtle is anyone’s guess, but this ticks every box in qualifying as a modern classic.
Toby Tobias – Macasu (Motor City Drum Ensemble Loft Party Remix)
