Feel My Bicep | Plastic People

Our boys over at Feel My Bicep have started running a monthly night in London, flexing like only they know how at Plastic People in Shoreditch.

Their next one is on Wed Nov 2nd, themed as a night of  Grindhouse Terror. Think frenzied synth trax, yerning vocal attacks, trashy italo hooks, and vintage Giallo looks.

They don’t announce any line ups either, so get down if you’re in the area for a guaranteed top, top party. Saying that, we’ve just heard who the special guests are for this one and trust us  – you will NOT want to be missin this. Think big. think deep, dark and awesome. Think a couple of the hottest names around, and you’ll be on the right tracks.

And here it’s FREE IN before 10pm. Fiver after. Whuut.

We posted this one up earlier today and just CAN’T stop watching it! Unearthed by our boys over at Sleazy Beats is the greatest music video ever. Xavier is the biggest, coolest, smoothest pimp we have seen. Magnificent.

Here’s a class edit of the track from the always-on-the-money Touchsoul fellas, who’ve drawn out the funky bass a lot more to keep the pimpin groovin longer.

6th BP’s long player is also one of this year’s most essential releases, get on that quicktime if you missed it.

The Equals – Funky Like a Train (Disco Tech edit)

Bit of an exclusive here for y’all – a sweet piece of awesome funk-fuelled edit work from the mighty Disco Tech aka Niklas Mellilä aka DJ Technical.

The Equals – Funky Like A Train (Disco Tech edit)

Born and raised in Sweden, with roots from Finland, Nick has set the world of  Soundcloud alight with a firece run of fine disco edits. This seems to have been an unlikley destination for the 30 year old DJ/Producer though, orginally a turntablist by trade.

“It was seeing a dmc video where the DJ scratched and beatjuggled that gave me the inspiration to become a DJ!” he told us. “So I bought my first set of turntables back in 98 and played only hip hop -  my main goal was to become a battle DJ or Turntablist. I practiced my scratching and shortly after think it was a year later I entered my first ever battle.”
“I also worked with several Swedish artists making cuts on their tracks, and touring with different hiphop acts and doing different showcases and such. And I also hosted a DJ school at one point, displaying the art of scratching and mixing. In 2008 then, I represented Sweden at the world DMC competition in London Battle for world supremacy.”

“It was only one year ago that I started working on my own edits so im still kinda fresh in this but learning something new from every edit! Many of the tracks I work on are personal favorites or sometimes I just hear a tune and I know straight away that there is a possibility to do something with that particular track!”

“And also the mood I’m in is very crucial for the edit, and  I do all kind of genres, it’s fun to explore what you can do with them. Whats great now is that people all over send me tracks that they think I should re-edit which is fun , I’ve explored a lot of great tracks that way.”

Through sheer demand, Nick has just released two volumes of his edits, available directly from him – check them out here and here. Details of how to grab em also on there too.

Nick also has a release on Editorial, Tight Money, and is working on a  stock of new material. Follow him on Soundcloud and Facebook and keep abreast of his supercool work.

scratchandsniff greatness

We struggle to articulate how much we adore Glasgow’s scratchandsniff.. It’s not even his magnificent re-edits we love, that’s a whole other story, but more so his truly immaculate taste in funk, soul and disco.

Every one of his works, and we mean every single one, is a lil nugget of joy from a time gone by – many of which have been completely new to us – that’ve been given a contemporary scratchandsniff polish.  Most of the time this consists of little more than a an extended DJ-friendly intro/outro, a slight re-arrangement and a re-master, and time after time his choice selections never fail to make us smile. There’s not a set we’ve played this past few years that hasn’t included a scratchandsniff edit or two.

He’s always one of our first check on Soundcloud, and we wholeheartedly recommend everyone signs up to do the same!

From the beautiful soul of the Trammps..
The Trammps – Rubber Band (scratchandsniffs stretched out re-rub)

to the gospel-disco of Gladys..
Gladys Knight & The Pips – Taste Of Bitter Love (scratchandsniff re-rub)

and the awesome upfront funk of Mouzon..
Mouzon’s Electric Band – Everybody Get Down (scratchandsniff re-rub)

The scratchandsniff stamp is a guarantee of one thing only – an absolutely essential listen.

Dan, you really are the man bro!
