Aretha Franklin | Rock Steady (EL edit)

This is cracking. Classic Aretha, with our favourite track from her seminal 1972 album Young, Gifted & Black, given a once-over by Dublin’s Eoin Long. Eoin is a stalwart DJ/producer in the Dublin scene having held residencies in some of the city’s leading nights. Check more of his tasty edit work on his soundcloud.
Aretha Frinklin – Rock Steady (EL edit)
PS as we found out to our detriment a week or two back, this track is a complete and utter BASTARD to mix! Tread carefully!

Loleatta Holloway | (November 5, 1946 — March 21, 2011)

Sad news this week when we learned of the passing of Loleatta Holloway.
A proper, proper legend and arguably one of the greatest divas in the disco era, Loleatta will certainly be remembered as one of the most sampled voices in dance music. From working with the Salsoul Orchestra to being sampled by Black Box, you’re sure to recognise one of the greatest female singers of the last 40 years in some form.
Here’s a couple of selections in tribute:
Factory Floor | ~(REAL LOVE) Optimo (Espacio) mix

The Optimo guy’s have signed up London-based trio Factory Floor, for a release on their label in early April. With the legendary Stephen Morris of JoyDivsion/New Order on production duties, the guys have been causing quite a stir, with their debut release gaining 9 out of 10 in NME, describing it as “the soundtrack of underworld disco”.
Their live performances have gained them support slots for the like of Fuck Buttons, Cold Cave, Liars and Andrew Weatherall, and if you are in London tonight they will be headlining the Dollops warehouse party with support from JD Twitch (Optimo). Full details right here
Optimo have also provided a storming remix of their new release, which has gained the support from the like of James Holden and The Quietus. And you can download it right here
Factory Floor – ~ (R E A L L O V E) (An Optimo Espacio Remix)

DUFFDISCO005 | CATCH ME OUT / YOU WISH
Aah Yes, ain’t that Fresh…………
The brilliant Jeremy Duffy has stepped behind his Duff Disco moniker to provide the next in the Duff Disco edit series 005 – Catch Me Out/You Wish.
These were uploaded on his Soundcloud a few months back, and have been causing quite a stir, with many people (including ourselves) itching for a release date. Well, that finally happens this Monday 7th March with a limited edition vinyl only release which will be available through Juno, and Piccadilly.
Two heavy, slo-mo bombs, perfect for the upcoming summer months, we’re looking foward to picking this up next week and playing out.
You Wish takes a cheeky sample from the old school hip hop joint by Skee-Lo, and just keeps the groove going.
The filp side has the cracking Catch Me Out, which is sure to get the dancefloor rocking
Get it while you can! Also keep an eye out on Duff’s own Join The Dots blog, where in the coming weeks he will be giving away past Duff Disco releases on mp3 for FREE! What a guy!
